Another European project that it tries to compete with Google, this time with ‘ Google Earth’
Almost two years ago it arose, to initiative of several European public institutions, the Quaero finder with the objective “to resist the technological supremacy and the American influence, and to defend therefore the multiculturalidad”.
Nevertheless, in a year it was divided in two by the discords between the French and German part. Now, according to it informs ‘ elmundo.es’, it is tried to create from Europe an alternative project to ‘ Google Earth‘, call ‘ e-Globé, for “being able to confront from Europe the new transformations that Internet in an immediate future will live, in that the virtual maps will play a fundamental role”. One of the impellers of ‘ e-Globé is Spanish astronaut Pedro Duke, as it assures that the development of the tool still is pending to receive financing of the European Union, and that will show images “of Europe updated every week”, obtained of several satellites, among them the one of the Spanish company/signature ‘ Deimos Spacé with resolutions of 20 meters by píxel (the majority of the important cities is offered with 20 an approximated resolution of cm/píxel in ‘ Google Earth’). With this new project, that takes developing from 2005, the debate arises again (like it happened with Quaero) on if the public institutions must and can compete with the companies deprived at the time of offering this type of tools, mainly after the own Duke emphasizes that with ‘ e-Globé they have been trying “to reinventar the Yellow Pages” because they will show to the state of the traffic and the pharmacies of guard, information who offers ‘ Google Earth’ and ‘ Google Maps’ for months.
